Top Nail Trends for 2020

Nothing is more important in the beauty industry than keeping up with the latest trends and styles. While you may be able to get away with missing a beat in the sporting goods industry, or deepwater fishing, beauty queens will not let you live a fashion faux pas down.

So while we can all agree that 2019 had some bizarre trends when it came to nails, 2020 appears to be more on board with diversification and playing with different colours, styles and patterns. Will we be seeing a continuation of the flamboyant styles that pervaded the nail art industry of 2019 or a reversion back to some more familiar territory with regards to colours and design?

Keep it pastel

2020 looks to be the year that once again embraces the classy colours of the paste pallette. Pastel colours are always a popular choice, so it is easy to see them making a comeback this year. The beauty of using pastel colours on your nails is an attestation to their versatility and the number of varied combinations you can play with.

French manicure with a twist

This is a nail combination made in heaven, as it combines two classic techniques to create something fresh, unique and contemporary. The ‘tonal french’ is a cute new way to do something different and can be mixed and matched to suit your mood or outfit. Simply replace the white shade of the classic French with some experimental hues and you’re good to go!

One for each

Many manicure regulars are torn between two different manicure designs. So with versatility, boldness and originality in mind, 2020 may very well see the start of a brand new rage – a different design for each hand! The mismatched mani is already something that is growing in popularity, while the experts exclaim we have two hands for a reason!

Create negative space

Where 2019 was ‘go, go, go’ and full of in your face designs, 2020 has the chance to make the most of what we don’t have. Creating negative space around nail designs is a clever way of creating a uniform look without having to spend too much time worrying about entire nail coverage. Making the most of negative space is considered a skill in all art forms. If you are able to do it with your manicures you will be absolutely “on trend”.

Sticker

Sometimes taking the easy way out is exactly what you need when it comes to your nails. Using stickers is a great way to add something more interesting over the top of a coat of base paint, whilst simultaneously saving time on painting on designs. There are a growing number of nail stickers available, enhancing and embellishing the basic hue underneath.

As we enter a new and exciting decade – let our hand and nails act as the canvas of this exciting time. After all – we should never lose sight of the simple fact – that while life may not be perfect, our nails can be!
